Grand Coulee Dam

Woody Guthrie

Well, the Gworld has seven wonders that the Ctravelers always tell,
Some Dgardens and some towers, I guess you know them Gwell,
But Gnow the greatest wonder is in CUncle Sam's fair land
It's the Dbig Columbia River and the big Grand Coulee GDam.

She heads Gup the Canadian Rockies where the Crippling waters glide,
Comes a-Droaring down the canyon to meet the salty Gtide,
Of the Gwide Pacific Ocean where the Csun sets in the West
And the Dbig Grand Coulee country in the land I love the Gbest.

In the Gmisty crystal glitter of that Cwild and wind ward spray,
Men have Dfought the pounding waters and met a watery Ggrave,
Well, she Gtore their boats to splinters but she Cgave men dreams to dream
Of the dDay the Coulee Dam would cross that wild and wasted Gstream.

Uncle GSam took up the challenge in the Cyear of 'thirty-three,
For the Dfarmer and the factory and all of you and Gme,
He said, "GRoll along, Columbia, you can Cramble to the sea,
But Driver, while you're rambling, you can do some work for Gme."

Now in GWashington and Oregon you can Chear the factories hum,
Making Dchrome and making manganese and light alumiGnum,
And Gthere roars the flying fortress now to Cfight for Uncle Sam,
Spawned uDpon the King Columbia by the big Grand Coulee GDam.
